Before you book

What a diagnostic visit involves

Not sure it's worth booking a full repair yet? Here's what a standalone diagnostic visit actually covers, and how it fits in if you decide to go ahead with the fix.

  • A second opinion, no obligation to repair

Diagnostics can be booked as its own standalone visit for anyone who wants a professional, hands-on read on what's actually wrong with an appliance before deciding what to do about it — whether that means getting a second, independent opinion on a quote or diagnosis from somewhere else, wanting to understand a fault before spending anything further on it, or simply not being ready yet to commit to a full repair and wanting real information to work from first.

  • Full inspection and a plain-language explanation

The technician carries out the same inspection they would ahead of any repair visit — testing the parts most likely to have failed given the symptoms described, isolating the actual root cause rather than the first thing that looks broken, and explaining what's actually wrong in plain, specific language rather than vague jargon you'd have to take on faith. The only real difference here is that this inspection stands alone as the entire appointment, rather than being the first step inside a repair visit that continues on to the fix.

  • A real estimate, not a guess

You get a written estimate for what completing the repair would actually cost, built from the specific fault that was found rather than a rough guess given over the phone before anyone has looked at the appliance. That gives you real, specific numbers to weigh against a quote from elsewhere or against simply replacing the unit, rather than having to make that decision on a rough estimate given sight unseen.

  • Applied toward a repair if you proceed

If you decide to go ahead with the repair — during that same visit or a separate one booked afterward — the diagnostic fee is waived entirely, so getting an informed, professional opinion first doesn't cost anything extra if you end up booking the fix anyway.

  • When the honest answer is replacement

Not every diagnosis ends in a repair recommendation. When an appliance is old enough, or the specific fault found is expensive enough relative to a new unit, a diagnostic visit is also where you find that out plainly and in writing, rather than being sold a repair on a unit that isn't worth fixing.

  • Useful before an out-of-pocket manufacturer-warranty claim

If an appliance might still be under manufacturer warranty, an independent diagnostic gives you a documented, written finding of what's actually wrong before you decide whether to go through the manufacturer's own process or handle the repair yourself — information worth having either way, since it's the manufacturer's call whether a given fault is actually covered.

On site

What the visit looks like

Your technician arrives inside the agreed window, in a marked vehicle and with photo identification. You get their name and photo by text before they set off.

They diagnose the fault, explain in plain language what has failed, and hand you a written estimate. Nothing proceeds until you approve it.

Most repairs finish in the same visit. Where a part has to be ordered we book the return before leaving, and you are not charged a second diagnostic.
