Common Viking problems we fix

What usually goes wrong, what causes it, and what it means for you. A starting point, not a diagnosis.

  • Gas oven slow to heat or not heating

Gas ovens of this type use a hot-surface (glow-bar) igniter that weakens with age. It still glows, but no longer draws enough current to open the gas valve, so the oven heats slowly or not at all. It is one of the most common range repairs and usually a one-visit fix.

  • Surface burners clicking or not lighting

Wet or dirty burners after cleaning, a misaligned cap, a failing spark module or a shorted igniter switch. We test each part of the ignition chain rather than replacing them all.

  • Oven temperature off

A drifting temperature sensor or thermostat makes recipes burn or undercook. We check the actual cavity temperature against the setting before recalibrating or replacing.

  • Oven door sagging or not closing

Pro-style oven doors are heavy, and their hinge springs and the door gasket wear with use. A door that does not seal leaks heat and slows cooking.

  • Convection fan not running

A failed fan motor or its control. Noise before failure is the usual warning sign.

Repair or replace

Is it worth repairing?

Viking ranges are heavy, long-lived and expensive to replace, while their common failures (igniters, spark modules, sensors, hinges, fans) are individual parts. Repair is the better value in most cases. Parts for older models are sometimes ordered rather than carried, and we tell you the timeline before you commit.

Still under Viking's warranty? Call Viking first: warranty repairs go through the manufacturer's own service network. We're an independent repair company and fix Viking appliances once the warranty has ended.

Questions

Viking repair FAQ

Why is my Viking oven taking so long to heat up?

The most common cause on a gas oven is a weak hot-surface igniter that glows but no longer opens the gas valve properly. Replacing the igniter usually fixes it in one visit. SOS Appliance Repair confirms it with a current test first.

Can a Viking range be repaired instead of replaced?

In most cases, yes. Igniters, spark modules, temperature sensors, door hinges and fan motors are all replaceable parts. SOS Appliance Repair diagnoses the fault and gives a written estimate so you can compare it with replacement.

Do you repair Viking appliances under warranty?

No. While a Viking appliance is under the manufacturer's warranty, Viking arranges repairs through its own authorized service network, so call them first. SOS Appliance Repair is independent and repairs Viking appliances once the warranty has ended, with its own 12-month parts-and-labor warranty on the work.
