What usually goes wrong, what causes it, and what it means for you. A starting point, not a diagnosis.
Washer won't drain or spin
A blocked drain pump or filter, often from a sock or a coin, a kinked drain hose, or a lid or door lock that has failed. Newer Maytag washers report a slow drain as F9 E1.
Washer shaking or walking
An unbalanced load first; if it happens with balanced loads, worn suspension parts or shocks. Front-load washers also need to sit level with the feet locked.
Dryer not heating
A blown thermal fuse or thermal cutoff, a failed heating element on electric dryers, or an igniter or gas valve coil fault on gas dryers. A clogged vent is the usual root cause.
Dryer squealing or thumping
Worn drum rollers, an idler pulley or the belt. All are replaceable on their own, and catching the noise early prevents a snapped belt mid-cycle.
Dishwasher not cleaning
Many newer Maytag dishwashers have a filter you clean by hand. A clogged filter and blocked spray arms are the most common reason dishes come out dirty.
Refrigerator ice maker or cooling problems
Water supply, filter and fill valve for the ice maker; fans and defrost parts for cooling. The same checks as any Whirlpool-built refrigerator.

Is it worth repairing?
Maytag laundry is built to be repaired, and its common failures, such as pumps, lid locks, belts, rollers, fuses and elements, are inexpensive parts. Repair is usually the better value on a machine under about ten years old.

Who makes Maytag appliances?
Maytag has been part of Whirlpool Corporation since 2006, and today's Maytag appliances share designs and many parts with Whirlpool and KitchenAid models. That keeps Maytag parts widely available. SOS Appliance Repair services all three brands.
Why won't my Maytag washer drain?
Check the drain hose for kinks and, on front-load models, clean the drain pump filter behind the small door at the bottom front. If the washer still won't drain, the pump has likely failed or something is caught in it. SOS Appliance Repair can test and replace it.
Do you repair Maytag appliances under warranty?
No. While a Maytag appliance is under the manufacturer's warranty, Maytag arranges repairs through its own authorized service network, so call them first. SOS Appliance Repair is independent and repairs Maytag appliances once the warranty has ended, with its own 12-month parts-and-labor warranty on the work.
