Coil cleaning
Dust and pet hair on a refrigerator's or freezer's condenser coil force the compressor to work harder and run longer to reject the same amount of heat, which shortens compressor life over time in a way that's easy not to notice until it's already happened. Periodic coil cleaning is one of the few maintenance items that directly heads off the compressor and sealed-system failures described on our refrigerator and freezer repair pages, rather than just treating a symptom after the fact.
Vent clearing
A dryer vent restricts gradually as lint builds up along the entire duct run, not just in the lint trap that gets emptied every load — and long before that restriction is bad enough to trip a thermal fuse and stop the dryer outright, it's already quietly costing longer dry times, higher energy use, and unnecessary wear on the heating system. Clearing the full run, not just the trap, is what actually prevents both problems.
Seal and gasket inspection
Door seals on refrigerators, freezers, wine coolers, and oven doors wear down gradually over years and rarely get checked until there's an obvious visible problem like frost buildup, a warm cabinet, or heat escaping during baking. Catching a seal that's starting to degrade early is a small, inexpensive fix; catching it late means the compressor or heating element has already been quietly working overtime to compensate for months.
Temperature and thermostat calibration
Thermostats and temperature sensors drift out of calibration slowly enough that nobody notices day to day — an oven running a little hot, a fridge running a little cold and working harder than it needs to. Checking actual temperature against an independent reading and recalibrating where needed catches that drift before it turns into an inconsistent-cooking or higher-energy-use complaint, and before it shortens the life of whatever component has been quietly compensating for it.
Drain path and filter checks
Dishwasher filters and washer drain pump filters both trap debris by design, and both need to be checked and cleared periodically or they slowly restrict drainage until it fails outright — the same standing-water and poor-cleaning complaints described on our dishwasher and washer repair pages, but caught before they happen rather than diagnosed after.
